The lore: In Indonesian culture, the myth of Wewe Gombel — a ruthless spirit desperate to nurture — has been passed down through generations. Fortunately, horror doesn't use this nearly as much as comedy. I loved this episode and think Toyol was the strongest overall episode of Folklore Season 1. A single mother and her young son discover a group of dirty and underfed children living in the attic of a mansion. “Nobody” was directed by series creator Eric Khoo. This makes the stories more relatable and also offers a more brutal kind of horror. The myth has Spanish origins and is similar to the boogeyman. Our verdict: 2 out of 5 We love South Korean horror and thriller movies, so our expectation for this episode was pretty high.
